The Nightbreed RPG Forum assumes that is has been a little over a year since the events in Midian in the summer of 1988. The year currently resides at the very beginning of 1990, in the midst of the month of January. January 15th, to be exact. As such, Coquille, Oregon is smack in the middle of its winter season. Frequent snows and early nightfall are boons for the Nightbreed, who often suffer no harm from the frigid night air and the elements. Still, with the snowy atmosphere lending a quaint charm to the surrounding woodlands of Coquille, a slew of tourists and campers have descended upon the usually quiet forest. This is a danger to the secretive Nightbreed, who do not appreciate the intrusion of picture snapping tourists on their lair.
Cassiel, the Baptized leader of the Undercroft, has been coordinating with his lead enforcer, Mr. Gerl, in order to keep the Undercroft safe and secure. They are scrambling to shore up their defenses after the defection of Old Boy, a renegade Nightbreed with delusions of grandeur and genocidal ideologies. Old Boy took with him a number of other like minded Nightbreed, and one of the vicious and monstrous Berserkers. Old Boy now stalks deep in the woods, threatening to reveal the existence of the Nightbreed through his malicious activities.
Lorekeeper Namiadais has started an initiative to bring back the old ways and begin anew the worship of the ancient gods of the Tribes of the Moon. This renaissance of Nightbreed spirituality has met with both great approval and vehement resistance by the populace. Publicly and privately, Cassiel has done everything to distance himself from this movement. He has stated on several occasions that a Nightbreed's faith is a personal matter, so anyone may worship or not worship what they wish as long as it does not harm another. The three remaining Beserkers kept deep in the bowls of the Undercroft grow restless. Whether this is because of the loss of their brother or some ominous portent of the future, even the wisest Mystics are baffled by their urgent bellowing and undulating, haunting howls.
In the town of Coquille, the children and teenagers are back in school after a long Winter Break. Seniors prepare for graduation, as this year's graduating class is the biggest in Coquille's town history. The mayor works tirelessly with the various offices of Coquille to combat the heavy snowfalls that threaten to disrupt traffic and the tourism. The Piedmont Center for the Arts has just received a remarkable exhibit of ancient Babylonian, Mesopotamian, and Assyrian sculptures, depicting the various gods of their pantheon. The Baker Street Cinema House is running a festival in the greatest B-movie slasher flicks, calling the event affectionately "Slashing through the Snow."
