Coquille High School serves the education needs of Coquille and surrounding areas, which include the children of farmers from varying distances from Coquille proper. Coquille is an extremely small high school, despite serving such a wide area. It has excellent academic rigor, however, and its core curriculum has been state certified. Coquille High School is unique in having a well-organized and comprehensive extracurricular activities office, headed by the enthusiastic yet dedicated Mrs. Helen Devereaux. These organizations include an FFA division, numerous scholastic clubs, an academic decathlon team, a debate team, and other after school activities that enrich the student's learning potential. Due to the efforts of Mrs. Devereaux, Coquille High School students who have applied themselves to these scholastic organizations are looked up with great favor by college admission boards.
Coquille High is a two story campus with several extended breezeways for external classrooms. The core classes and science labs are held inside the main building. The main building also houses a basketball gymnasium where general physical education is taught. The administrative offices are adjacent to the main entrance of the building, right across from the atrium which marks the center of the campus. A cafeteria with a stage lies to the right of the atrium is where the students and faculty enjoy their lunches at midday. An external eating concourse is watched by school security so that no student gets ideas of skipping.
Behind the school lies the different sports fields that the Coquille Red Devils make use of. This includes a baseball field, a football field, a soccer field, and, of course, a running track. An set of portable classroom exists around a small concourse where the NJROTC classes are held and parade ground maneuvers are practiced. Coquille's library resides to the right of the main building. A large, two-story building, it is quite an impressive library as it serves the need of all of Coos county. The librarians are extremely proud of their archives and do their very best to keep the library organized and up-to-date.
