All characters must first be submitted to myself and a group of moderators for approval. In order to ensure our approval, I am providing a set of guidelines for what I’m looking for in characters. Now this is not going to be a rigid set of archetypes you have to fulfill, but rather helpful suggestions and ideas that will help you create a suitable character for the Nightbreed RP.
Character Rules of the Nightbreed RP Forum.
1. Only three characters per player.
In order to keep confusion down to a minimum and so that players don’t end up posting with themselves, there is a three character maximum. Further, you are only allowed to have two characters that are Nightbreed. If everyone played a bunch of Nightbreed, it would seem infeasible that a small town wouldn’t notice the heaving mass of monster underneath them. You may only play one Familiar if you choose to. Once again, monster hunters should be a rare breed and shouldn’t all congregate in Coquille. It’d look really weird. Finally, no matter what your line up is, one of your three characters MUST be a Natural. It’s good to see how the other side lives, too! Now, if you want to, you can play three Naturals, that’s just fine. Or you could just play one character, it’s up to you, but just play by the rules presented here.
2. Create a new profile for every character.
This will avoid any issues with confusion, as you will log in as the character you are posting for. That way no one will have to use a label system or anything weird to differentiate their characters. I feel that this is a much better system than having all your characters under one profile. Since there is a limit to three characters per player, I don't think it will generate too many profiles.
3. Five Afflictions per character.
Afflictions are the various otherworldly powers that the Nightbreed can call upon in order to perform supernatural feats and magics. They are detailed under the Character Creation Guide later, and others can be made up with moderator approval! However, in order to keep characters of equal power level and to keep characters from being ridiculously over powered, I ask that you keep the number of Afflictions your Nightbreed down to 5. This does not include Nightbreed's ability to see in the dark. Everything concerning Afflictions is detailed in the Character Creation Guide...just make sure you remember that you only get 5 of them! Choose wisely, friend.
4. No god modders, power players, berserkers, marry-sues, tweaks, twinks, or other annoying clichés.
RPing is a game of give and take, of cooperation and collaboration. It is not, I repeat, NOT about one upping the other players. You want that, get on WoW or some other MMORPG where character levels and kewl powers let you show how big your dick is. Okay, so you’re powerful, you’re a bad ass…who gives a crap. There are a thousand other characters in bad literature and television that are just like that. I do not want this forum to turn into a bad episode of Dragonball Z. Conversely, I hate ultra-angsty self-insert characters that are just knockoffs of popular teenage supernatural drama. I swear to God almighty if I see one person that tries to make their Nightbreed sparkle in the daylight rather than wither, they are so banned. Don’t get me wrong, you can play a character with a lot of internal drama and issues to workout. That makes for great roleplaying. What I don’t want is bad fan fiction on my board.
5. Create a Nightbreed, not a knockoff.
It is strongly recommended that you read Cabal, watch the movie Nightbreed, and read the accompanying comic series. Yes, you can make a werewolf easily with the rules provided in character creation. Or a vampire, or any other movie monster you can image. Yeah, you can make a Japanese ghost like from Ringu, but it’s been done before. Too many times if you ask me. Make something new, interesting, fun .
6. Create any NPC's you need for your character within reason.
Player's may create NPC's for their characters. Friends, family, enemies, coworkers...whatever you need. However, NPC's will also have to be approved by myself and the moderators. Further, do not create too many NPC's. Remember, NPC's are free to use by any player on this board; they are not "mini-characters" used to get around the 3 character rule. Please check under Coquille Census Bureau section for NPC Creation Rules.
With these guidelines in mind, go on to the Character Creation Rules. Now, go on and have some fun!
